Tired of the ugly classroom surfaces of your tables? I am SO excited to share how I upgraded the look of an 'old' table in my classroom... and it was really cheap! |
Easy DIY Farmhouse Classroom Table
DIY Materials:
Gather contact paper, scissors, a ruler/measuring tape, a pencil, a squeegee, and (the secret ingredient) WINDEX! I bought this self-adhesive contact paper in Beach Wood for under $10.

There are many options for contact paper. I chose one with shades of blue, to tie into my theme.
*Don't have a squeegee? Try a plastic dustpan with a rubber edge!
Prep Contact Paper:
Measure out and cut your contact paper. Turn the paper over and place it on the surface. Using the flat side of a pencil, mark the paper while tracing against the edge of the table.Begin the Work:
When you are ready to place the contact paper, liberally spray WINDEX over the table. This will allow you to slide the sticky part around the table and fit it EXACTLY where you want it.Squeegee Time:
Holding the contact paper down (once it's in place) use the squeegee to push or pull out ALL of the Windex. It's important to get it all out.Clean Up:
Use a cloth to wipe up the liquid. Make sure it's a dry as can be, especially on the edges. If any edge is sticking up slightly, you'll want to squeegee more and wipe up again.Enjoy:

DIY Farmhouse Table on a Budget
As you can see, it's a fun and easy project! The only issue I have had with this is that one small corner curled up a bit. The custodian at our school helped me by adding a small adhesive!
Please note: if you don't own the tables, you may need to ask permission. My tables were about 20 years old, so our admin had no problem with me spicing them up!
Please remember to share this! 💟
How about removing it? Does it come off easily?
ReplyDeleteHi! Thank you for your question. I have not tried to peel this paper off yet; however, I read the reviews carefully and saw that people were able to take it off using a steamer!
DeleteAmazing post! Is the contact paper dry erase-friendly?
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! The beach wood paper I used has ridges on it, so dry erase marker does not work well on it. However, there is a brand called Better Than Paper (which I have used as well) that allows for dry erase markers! Try this link to see their farmhouse paper: https://amzn.to/2YI7LNm Also, there are plain white, dry erase contact paper rolls, too! Thanks again for your question--happy DIY'ing! :)
DeleteHi! I'm from Argentina and I don't know what is WINDEX. Could to tell me what kind of product is it? or what is it for?
ReplyDeleteIt's a fantanstic project!!! Thanks a lot
Viviana Schiel
Hi Viviana, Windex is a brand of glass cleaner. When the glass cleaning product is sprayed on the table, it allows you to slide the contact paper around until you have it exactly where you want it. Then you can use a scraper or squeegee to draw the cleaning fluid out. Then you will have your DIY Farmhouse Table upgrade! I hope that helps? Thank you for reaching out!
