A Look Inside...

I was inspired to share my classroom this week by two people.  First, I happened by Mandy's Tips for Teachers --a great blog from a second grade teacher.  She posted pictures from the inside her classroom, and I thought, "What a great thing to do!"

Then, a colleague/friend popped into my room today and said my room always feels "very warm." This really 'filled my bucket' with a good feeling.  Thanks Jen! :)

So, I was inspired to share my very colorful classroom.

A view from the doorway: kids sit in groups of 4 or 5, Abenaki moons hanging from the ceiling, my desk off to the right.

My guided reading/guided math corner.  

From the door-sharp left look: dry erase board (front of the room.)

Reading corner and small work table (books are tucked in there and off to the right.)  
You can see our character collages up on the wall, and if you look closely there are some great dioramas on top of the book cases.

View from my desk: front board with math learning targets posted on the bottom left, greek/latin root posters above board, and Hopes and Dreams on the purple banner.
 This is a new arrangement: student book boxes, writing tools, and nonfiction text books.  Vacation table is visible in the corner of this picture.  Behind these bookcases is a large rug, where we meet for Morning Meeting and learning.  I love this new space!

Thanks for the inspiration to share!  Hope to see some other classrooms online! :)

    Your room is HUGE! I'm "totes" jealous. It's also super, super cute. We use learning targets and "bucket fillers/dippers" too! :)

    I know--I am so lucky to have such a large room! It's a common joke at our school, that I have the biggest space. And boy, do I fill it! Thank you for your comment--so cool that we use the same elements (I love learning targets!)

    Your room is fabulous! Your students are very fortunate. I have been scouring blogs looking for ideas for setting up my classroom in September. I want to change some things for next year.       Thanks Stacy! I am always reinventing and moving things around. Each year, my room looks quite different. Next year, I'm going to really make sure I have isolated corners for each subject area--they began to overlap this year! Thanks for the comment, I am checking out your blog now!

      Thanks Laura! I think I need to hone down on some of the color next year. :) It started off so bare... it's hard to believe all of those things have gone up just this year!

    I love your room--it is so bright with natural light! I'm so jealous of your real windows! My windows are next to the ceiling and I need a window pole to open them up! haha

      Thanks, we are lucky for sure. Bummer about your windows being up so high. I was in a basement room a few years back, and all the kids at recess would run up and look in our windows (nearly EVERY day!) It was cute, but very distracting! Thanks for the comment and I'm following you too! :)

    I love that you have tables instead of desks for the students. I want to be able to do that, but since I'm starting in 4th at the end of the year, there's no way the school would let me change them out. Maybe next year!

      Thanks--I actually really like the tables. I've had desks too. It's easier to move desks around, because they take up less space. But I like how the tables have so much surface area (and fewer places to 'stuff' papers!) My biggest problem now is trying to arrange the tables so everyone can see...       Awww thanks! It's funny, the room doesn't seem that crazy-colorful when I'm in it, but from the pictures it looks like a kaleidoscope! I do love my u-table for guided reading... it's big enough to fit a bunch of kids at and to do projects at, but I also love how I can sit there with one kiddo and feel close enough to hear reading and redirect, etc. I got the book boxes from Really Good Stuff (love them!) they are hard plastic and are awesome! I used to order corrugated cardboard book-boxes and each year I had to throw them all away. So this year I splurged and I'm liking them much better! Thanks for visiting!!!

    Your classroom is so colorful and exciting! I am so glad to see that there are still some upper elementary teachers that love to decorate their classroom! I wish my classroom looked that nice and organized! I am thinking I will be doing a classroom make-over this summer. =) You have given me some inspiration.

    BTW: I found you through your TPT forum. Thank you so much for starting that. I am a fairly new blogger too and love finding other new bloggers!
